League leaders Black Rhinos FC once again demonstrated why they are the team to beat this season. Although they were held to a 1-1 draw by Highrange FC, the military side extended their tally to 48 points from 24 matches, maintaining a healthy six-point cushion at the summit. The point may not have been maximum returns, but it kept the title destiny firmly in their own hands.
Their closest challengers, Harare City FC, ensured the pressure remains on after edging Black Mambas 1-0. The Sunshine Boys collected a priceless three points to move to 42 points, reducing neither the gap nor the belief that they can still mount a late charge for Premier League promotion.
Third-placed Ngezi Stars U19 were frustrated in a pulsating 2-2 draw against MWOS U19. While the young stars showcased their attacking quality, the dropped points saw them remain on 40 points, missing an opportunity to close in on Harare City.
The race for the top four also heated up. G & T Mine FC produced a professional 2-0 away victory over Banket United to climb to 39 points and tighten their grip on fourth place. Chingwere FC also strengthened their promotion credentials with a composed 2-0 win over Cranborne Bullets, moving to 38 points and keeping the leading pack within touching distance.
Perhaps the standout attacking display of the weekend came from CP Chemicals FC, who swept aside Jumbo Giants 3-1 away from home. The convincing victory lifted CP Chemicals to sixth place on 35 points, leapfrogging into serious contention for a top-five finish as the business end of the campaign approaches.
Elsewhere, Golden Eagles were forced to settle for a goalless draw against struggling Marere, while Zambezi G & C boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 1-0 victory over Batanai FC. FC Oden continued their impressive resurgence by comfortably dispatching Karoi United 3-0, climbing into ninth position with 33 points. Chegutu Pirates also enjoyed a productive afternoon, defeating PAM FC 2-0 to create breathing space above the relegation zone.
At the bottom of the standings, the fight to avoid the drop remains fierce. Marere remain rooted to the foot of the table with 20 points despite earning a point against Golden Eagles. Rangers, who failed to fulfil their fixture against Shamva Mine, stay second from bottom on 24 points, while Batanai also remain trapped on 24 points following their defeat to Zambezi G & C. Shamva Mine picked up a point but remain deep in relegation trouble with 25 points.
With just a handful of fixtures remaining, every point has become priceless. Black Rhinos continue to dictate the pace at the summit, but Harare City refuse to wave the white flag, while Ngezi Stars U19 and G & T Mine remain poised to capitalise on any slip-ups. Down the table, the relegation dogfight promises just as much drama as clubs battle desperately to preserve their Division One status.
The title race is far from over, and with momentum becoming the biggest currency in the league, Matchday 25 promises another chapter packed with high stakes, pressure, and plenty of football intrigue.
