Newly-elected Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League vice chairman Grey Hama has outlined his top priorities for the league, focusing on player welfare, cohesion among stakeholders and good corporate governance.
Hama, who was elected unopposed last month, believes the league’s challenges can be addressed through coordinated efforts from administrators, clubs and other stakeholders.
”My top priorities as the new Pacific Storm Vice Chairman include player welfare, raising football standards through promoting cohesion amongst all stakeholders, and promoting good corporate governance principles in football administration,” Hama told Fanzone.
It was the first time the Eastern Region Soccer League held elections since its formation at the turn of the millennium.
Hama believes the league can only thrive if various stakeholders in the region join hands and work together in unison.
”The challenges facing the league can only be addressed through coordinated efforts by all football stakeholders starting from us administrators, clubs, the business community, local authorities, political leaders, football fans and many others,” said Hama.
The Ruwa businessman emphasized the importance of maintaining a cordial relationship with clubs, coaches, and players, citing plans to provide training opportunities and rewards for outstanding performers.
“The league has to maintain a cordial relationship with clubs, coaches, and players. These are key assets the league relies upon,” he said.
“The league will introduce monthly awards for best club, coach, and player.”
On talent development, Hama stressed the need to identify and nurture local talent, with plans to collaborate with football experts and improve facilities.
”The league has so many local talents and these youngsters need to be assisted in so many ways. Talent identification shall be the first step to assist youngsters,” he said.
Producing a competitive environment and a champion that can compete in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League are key priorities for Hama. As he puts it: “The goals involve around bringing a good league champion that will compete well in the PSL next season. Other goals include producing talent that match superior leagues very well and also the goal of competitiveness.”
On sponsorship, Hama expressed gratitude to Pacific Storm and called on other corporates to join.
The league, previously known as the Eastern Region Soccer League, was rebranded to the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League last year after Pacific Cigarette Company, a cigarette manufacturing brand, came on board as sponsors through their Pacific Storm brand.
”We express our greatest gratitude to our sponsors Pacific Storm for the great work they are doing. We pray that our sponsors will continue to assist in that regard,” said Hama.
“We also call upon the corporate sector and other capable financiers to come aboard and work with us,” added Hama.
The new Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League board comprises of Wisdom Simba (Chairman), Gray Hama (Vice Chairman), Board Members: Simbarashe Mandishona, Rodgers Banda, Mollen Makumbe and Stefani Masina.
