Garananga suffers major blow, ruled out for remainder of season with knee injury

Zimbabwe international Munashe Garananga has suffered a major knee injury blow that will keep him out of action until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Danish giants FC Copenhagen have confirmed that the Warriors defender, who is currently on loan at Lyngby Boldklub in the Danish Superliga, underwent surgery after picking up a serious injury that required an operation.
Garananga had established himself as a regular starter for Lyngby this season, producing solid displays at the heart of defence before the unfortunate setback. So far, he had made nine appearances after 12 league matches.
In total he featured in 11 matches, including two UEFA Conference League qualifying matches. His impressive loan spell had been seen as crucial for his game and for maintaining his place in the national team setup.

According to Copenhagen, his rehabilitation will continue in Lyngby, with both clubs remaining in close dialogue throughout the recovery process.
The Danish champions, FC Copenhagen, also took time to thank Lyngby for their excellent cooperation and wished the Zimbabwean a speedy recovery.
“His rehabilitation will continue in Lyngby, with the two clubs in close dialogue throughout the process. FC Copenhagen thank Lyngby for their excellent cooperation and wish Garananga a speedy recovery,” the club said in a statement on Friday.
The injury comes as a huge blow for the Warriors as well. Garananga has been ruled out of Zimbabwe’s upcoming squad for the matches against Equatorial Guinea after being excluded due to the injury.
His absence leaves a significant void in the Warriors defence, where he has been one of the regulars in recent times. The 25-year-old was part of the Zimbabwe squad that featured at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations finals that were played in Morocco, and has been a key figure in coach’s plans.
With Garananga unavailable, the technical team will now have to look at alternatives, with the likes of Corbin Mthunzi, Kevin Moyo and Peter Muduhwa expected to fill the void left by the gangly defender. Garananga will now shift his focus to recovery, with his return only expected ahead of the 2027/28 season.
