Ambitious Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League side FC Wangu Mazodze have suspended head coach Elisha Mukusha with immediate effect, the club confirmed in a press release issued a few hours ago.

The move comes just hours after the club’s 4-1 loss to Yadah FC and puts the spotlight firmly on Sunday’s Derby showdown against Masvingo United.

According to the statement from Secretary General Desire Nyahunda, Mukusha “will not be on the bench during the upcoming Derby match on Sunday against Masvingo United and is not allowed to make any technical decision on behalf of the club until the matter is finalized.”

The club clarified that while he is suspended, “he will continue to receive full benefits pending finalisation of the matter in question,” and that “the outcome of the inquiry shall be issued within 14 days from today.”

Sources close to the club revealed that Mukusha was walking on a tight rope after he was given a three match ultimatum by the club a few weeks ago.

Out of the three he managed one win, one draw and this recent 4-1 drubbing at Yadah FC.

With the technical bench now vacant, sources close to the club revealed to Fanzone that team manager Emion Maganga is expected to step in as interim head coach.

Maganga will be tasked with steadying the side and preparing them for a Derby that now carries even more weight as they will try to climb up the ladder.

After yesterday’s loss, Mazodze remain ninth having amassed 9 points after 8 games.

The club moved to reassure supporters during what it called a “challenging time,” stating: “We understand that this news may be concerning to many of you, and we assure you that the Club remains committed to maintaining a positive and respectful environment for all members. We appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time.”

Wangu Mazodze say further updates will follow once the inquiry is complete.

For now, all attention turns to Maganga and how he rallies the squad ahead of Sunday’s encounter.
