Farai Jere: ‘It’s going to be disaster for a lot of teams at NSS..’

Caps United boss Farai Jere is buzzing ahead of the re-opening of the National Sports Stadium on Sunday, when The Green Machine take on Scottland FC in a new-found rivalry that promises an explosive match.

Just like the Harare derby between Caps United and Dynamos played on 10 May, this one is likely to bring the capital city to a standstill, especially with the long-awaited opening of the giant facility finally a reality.

Expectations of a bumper crowd are high following the Harare derby between Dynamos and Caps United, which attracted over 25,000 paying fans.

But following the ugly, violent scenes at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday, calls against hooliganism have been amplified by all stakeholders.

Caps United sit pretty at the top of the PSL with 28 points from 14 matches. Scottland have been huffing and puffing but are just three points behind on 25 points, sitting in fourth place.

Whoever walks away with bragging rights on the National Sports Stadium’s re-opening, after years of closure, remains to be seen.

But Caps United boss Farai Jere is buzzing with confidence that his men will turn the stadium into a fortress and slaughterhouse for their opponents.

Jere made these remarks as the build-up for PSL Matchday 15 continues, with fans eager to watch football at the National Sports Stadium, once again.

“It’s going to be a disaster for a lot of teams at the National Sports Stadium. It’s our slaughterhouse, it’s our home ground,” Farai Jere said.

“It’s known, and a song was actually composed because no team used to come there and come out. We are very happy that our home ground is back. And with where we are on the log, there’s no reason for us not to believe that we are the champions this year.”

Caps United are likely to face the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions without head coach Takesure Chiragwi, who is on Warriors duty at the Unity Cup in the United Kingdom.

They will also hope to bounce back following a rather unconvincing showing against FC Platinum at Rufaro Stadium on Monday.
