Danny Tafara: The wall behind Grand Legacy’s title push

Danny Tagara is having the season of his life.

On Saturday at St Paul’s Musami Stadium, the Grand Legacy Football Club goalkeeper kept his 12th clean sheet of the season in a 2-0 win over Green Fuel FC.

That result keeps Grand Legacy right in the championship race.

Speaking to Fanzone, Tagara said the record is not about him alone.
“This feat is possible because of team effort,” he said. “From the first man to the last man, we defend together. A goalkeeper can only do so much.”

He also praised his defense. At home, Grand Legacy have only conceded one goal this season. Away, they have let in seven goals.
“Our defense has been solid, especially at home,” Tagara said. “We are communicating and working for each other, and that makes my job easier.”

Tagara also took time to thank the people behind the scenes.
“I want to thank my coach Tafadzwa Dube and my fellow keepers,” he said. “They encourage me every day and push me to work hard. We compete in training, but we also help each other to get better.”

Mid season recruit Kanisio Marimazhira, who captained FC Hunters’ 2025 Premier Soccer League journey from the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League, has settled well.

Grand Legacy have also made changes off the field.

Coach Paul Chimalizeni has joined from Agama FC.

The team also signed players like Nigel Chipunza. Chipunza scored both goals against Green Fuel on Saturday.

With 19 games played, Grand Legacy are five points behind league leaders Yadah FC.

There are still more than 15 games to go, so Tagara says the focus is to “take it a game at a time” and keep fighting for the title.

Tagara won the Goalkeeper of the Month award for May in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League.

He is in contention again, but he says the team goal comes first. He also hopes to make it onto the Soccer Stars calendar this year.
“I am hopeful to make it to the Soccer Stars calendar,” he added.

Right now Tagara leads all goalkeepers for clean sheets. He has 12. The next best was Lennon Gonese with 9, but he has since left Yadah FC. Philip Makumi of Tenax CS FC has 8 and Freedom Kwangwa of Renco Mine FC has 7.

With over 15 games left, Grand Legacy believe they can still catch Yadah and with Tagara in goal, they know they have a strong chance.
