Brilliant Blanket Mine remain unbeaten after 24 matches in CRSL

High-flying Gwanda outfit Blanket Mine FC remain unbeaten and are now pulling clear in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League, with a five-point cushion after 24 matches.

In a big match at BF Grounds, Tongogara FC scored first and threatened to end their incredible run, but the log leaders showed character to fight back and force a 1-1 draw.

That result keeps them unbeaten after 24 matches with 17 wins and seven draws. Blanket Mine have now amassed 58 points and have opened a significant gap at the top of the table.

Blanket Mine are in pole position, while Kwekwe United are second on 53 points. Chapungu FC are in third position with 51 points.

In addition, West Nicholson FC are in fourth place with 49 points from 23 matches, while Gwanda Pirates sit in fifth position.

BLANKET MINE’S STEELY DEFENSE ANCHORING THEIR CENTRAL REGION RUN-IN

Simply put, Blanket Mine have a massive defensive record that has been key to their dominance. They have scored 39 goals and conceded only seven all season, giving them a goal difference of plus 32, the best in the league so far.

On Saturday, the big match was at Baghdad Stadium between Kwekwe United and Chapungu FC. Touted as a title six-pointer, both sides cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw that ultimately favours Blanket Mine.

That draw, combined with Blanket Mine’s point at Tongogara, means the Gwanda side are now five points clear and still with their unbeaten record intact.

Elsewhere, Sabi Gold Mine lost 0-1 to Good Morning FC, and Vhembe Stars Academy fell 1-2 to Grain Tigers at Dulibadzimu Stadium.
