Hunters went into the quarter-final at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday as underdogs against a Makepekepe side which was the only traditional giant of Zimbabwean football left in the tournament.

FC HUNTERS COME FROM TWO GOALS DOWN AT RUFARO STADIUM

Takesure Chiragwi’s men looked in control after an Ishmael Wadi first-half brace put them 2-0 up and in the driving seat.

But Hunters refused to give up. Terrence Dzvukamanja pulled one back before Ronald Pfumbidzai scored a dramatic 95th-minute equalizer to take the clash to the lottery of the penalty shootout.

Munkuli then became the hero, denying three CAPS United takers to seal a famous victory. Munkuli’s heroics come as FC Hunters have now slayed two of the big giants in Zimbabwean football. Last month, they knocked Dynamos out of the Chibuku Super Cup 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

FC Hunters are proving to be the breakout team of the 2026 season, turning a team with less stars into giant slayers.

Their progress has now taken them into the final four of the country’s richest knockout competition, while for Makepekepe, the defeat represents another disappointment in a season in which they had hoped to challenge for silverware.

The Nesbert Saruchera-coached side will now face the winners of the clash between Blanket Mine and FC Platinum, who face off at Luveve Stadium tomorrow.
