The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League has a new leader after Matchday 16, with Black Rhinos FC climbing to the summit following a crucial week of action.

After Matchday 15, Harare City led the standings on 28 points, one ahead of Black Rhinos on 27. However, Matchday 16 saw the military side leapfrog the Sunshine Boys, moving to 30 points while Harare City slipped to second on 29 points.

The battle for promotion remains intense. Golden Eagles held onto third place and moved to 26 points, while Ngezi Stars U19 strengthened their position in fourth with 25 points. Chingwere FC and Cranborne Bullets also remain firmly in the race, both sitting on 24 points and within striking distance of the top four.

Further down the table, Karoi United enjoyed a rise from 13th to 10th, while Cranborne Bullets made one of the biggest jumps of the week, climbing from eighth to sixth. At the other end, Zambezi G&C moved off the foot of the table, leaving Marere FC rooted at the bottom.

Attention now turns to a crucial Matchday 17 programme that could once again reshape the standings.

League leaders Black Rhinos face a tricky away assignment against G&T Mine, knowing that any slip-up could hand the advantage back to Harare City. The Sunshine Boys will be looking to reclaim top spot when they host Cranborne Bullets, one of the form teams in the division.

Third-placed Golden Eagles travel to PAM FC, while fourth-placed Ngezi Stars U19 visit Chingwere FC in what could be the biggest clash of the round. A victory for either side would have major implications for the promotion race.

Elsewhere, struggling sides Shamva Mine, Marere FC, and Zambezi G&C are desperate for points as they battle to avoid being dragged deeper into relegation trouble.

With just four points separating first and fourth place, and several direct battles involving promotion hopefuls, Matchday 17 could prove to be one of the most decisive rounds of the season so far. One thing is certain: the race for the Northern Region crown is far from over.
