Benjani Mwaruwari: ‘We must feel the pain…..’

Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari is not getting complacent after two wins on the trot, saying his team still has a long way to go and must ‘feel the pain’ until they are firing on all cylinders.

On Wednesday, they beat Hardrock FC, sealing their second win in a row – only the first time they have done that this season. Reason Sibanda scored a beautiful acrobatic goal in the second half, beating goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga, whose diving effort was not enough to keep it out.

Even after a series of strikes over salaries, Mwaruwari’s side appears to be slowly clicking the right chords on the field of play. They also became the first team to win at Chahwanda Stadium, breaking Hardrock’s fortress at home.

However, Mwaruwari refuses to be complacent after two wins, saying his team is far from being unstoppable. They are currently on 17 points from three wins, eight draws, and one loss.

IT’S NOT ENOUGH SAYS BENJANI MWARUWARI

Mwaruwari insisted in his post-match comments that what they have achieved so far is not enough and they need to keep pushing and ‘feel the pain’ until they reach the top.

“Football is a process. You know, sometimes we’re still building and we’re heading in the right direction. There are a lot of things we have to go through. We had like seven throws in a row and that’s not enough,” Mwaruwari said.

“At times, we weren’t conceding, and then we started to concede on set pieces – we’re working on that. We’re getting some goals, but not enough. As I say, we need to work on many areas. To be a good team, we need to go through that process, feel the pain sometimes.

“At Herentals, you saw we scored and then they scored; they were giving us problems with set pieces. But today [against Hardrock] we were solid. Let’s hope we can move forward without conceding and scoring more.”
