Zimbabwe face a stern test against Australia at ICC T20 World Cup

Zimbabwe face a huge task in their second game of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, facing Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on today.

Both teams were dominant in their previous matches, with the Chevrons in a thumping 8-wicket victory over Oman while Australia got the better on Ireland, courtesy of a 67-run victory.

Faced with superior opponent than in the previous match, Zimbabwe Head Coach Justin Sammons revealed that the approach stays the same, regardless of who they face in tournament.

“It’s about (playing) one ball at a time. Doesn’t matter who you are playing. It’s about playing what is in front of you, not playing a man,” said Sammons.

“The processes stay exactly the same. One ball at a time,” he added.

While thanking people back in Zimbabewe for their support, Sammons highlighted that the team is doing all it can to ensure they don’t disappoint the cricket-loving nation.

“The guys are really giving their all. They have been working extremely hard behind the scenes,” he said.

The major injury worry in the squad is that of veteran batter Brendan Taylor, whose readiness to play will be assessed after the final training session on Thursday.

The wicketkeeper retired hurt in the previous match against Oman.

Zimbabwe are still to face fellow groupmates Ireland and hosts Sri Lanka.
