Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is on a mission to revive its grassroots program, with Schools and Age Group Manager Nicholas Singo and High performance head coach Steve Mangongo leading the charge.
Singo, revealed that a comprehensive coach audit exercise is underway to assess the country’s cricket infrastructure.
“We’ve been checking the suitability and availability of facilities, the number of coaches and their qualifications, and whether centers have enough equipment for development,” Singo told Fanzone.
“We’ve also been meeting with school heads to get their buy-in and support for the program.”
The initiative aims to cover all provinces, with five already completed and an interim report submitted.
Singo is optimistic about the progress, saying: “We’re taking steps in the right direction to revive and go back to what worked for Zimbabwe cricket – producing players like Hamilton Masakadza and Christopher Mpofu.”
Currently, the Zimbabwe Under-19 team hasn’t won a match in the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup, with their latest defeat being against Bangladesh yesterday at Harare Sports Club, losing by 74 runs.
