Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has received a welcome injection of funding, with a USD 50,000 sponsorship deal from local company Zim Cyber City aimed at supporting domestic cricket development.
The sponsorship was announced during the ongoing men’s T20I tri-series between Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand, and is targeted at strengthening the financial foundation of ZC’s domestic teams. This backing comes at a crucial time, as Zimbabwe continues to prioritise rebuilding and improving its cricketing structures from the grassroots to the professional level.
The funds will be channelled directly to help domestic teams with key operational costs, including logistics, equipment and player welfare. Zimbabwe Cricket has long maintained that improving domestic cricket is essential to restoring national team performance and long-term success. With the absence of international tournaments like the T20 World Cup this year, the focus has shifted more heavily toward local competition and developing future stars.
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni acknowledged the importance of the sponsorship in reinforcing the domestic system. The organisation sees this as more than just financial support — it is a strategic partnership that will help bolster the sustainability of local teams and provide players with the necessary environment to grow and excel.
Zim Cyber City, the sponsor, has positioned itself as a growing force in Zimbabwe’s technology and business sectors. By backing cricket, the company is also signalling its commitment to community and youth development through sport.
With Zimbabwe’s men’s and women’s teams working to rebuild after recent challenges, and with domestic cricket providing the talent pipeline for the national sides, this partnership arrives as a timely boost. It is hoped that such investments will lead to stronger performances at home and abroad, while also reigniting passion for the sport among young Zimbabweans.
