Zimbabwe’s preparations for the upcoming World Rugby Nations Cup are already gathering momentum, with a Zimbabwe A side currently touring South Africa to build depth and sharpen combinations.
Head coach Piet Benade has selected a squad made up entirely of locally based players, including a number of promising youngsters under the age of 23 — a clear sign of long-term planning and investment in the future.
The team, which travelled on Sunday, wasted no time making an impact, securing a dominant victory over a Northern Region Invitational side featuring players from Louis Trichardt and Musina Rugby Clubs. It was a confident and physical performance that underlined the potential within Zimbabwe’s domestic structures.
Several members of the squad were also part of the Sables’ recent Rugby Africa Cup triumph, further strengthening the group with valuable experience.
