Barely 18 months after firing three executive members of the secretariat, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has reportedly started a process of dismissing more than five members of the department.
Technical Director Jethro Hunidzarira headlines the list of staff that has been released by the country’s football governing body for allegedly failing competency profiling and psychometric tests conducted by a human resources consultant, Samara Group.
Hunidzarira was hired by the Normalisation Committee (NC) in March 2024, replacing Wilson Mutekede, who was fired alongside Acting Chief Executive Officer Xolisani Gwesela and General Manager for National Teams, Wellington Mpandare, in November 2023.
This time, the clean out has claimed five members of staff, including the human resources manager, the referees coordinator, the bookkeeper, & TMS manager.
It probably started with Phillip Chiyangwa’s executive committee in 2016, which cleared out all staff save for two.
ZIFA has lost vital institutional memory in the process, leading to the abandonment of many development projects.
The impact of hiring and firing of TDs has led to stagnation in the department, which is the backbone of the football association.
The Nqobile Magwizi-led ZIFA administration risks not receiving FIFA forward funds for a while until it hires another technical director.
Efforts to get a comment from Magwizi were in vain as his phone went unanswered.
