The Nqobile Magwizi-led ZIFA administration is looking for land to construct a stadium as well as its headquarters, Fanzone has established.
A stadium crisis in Zimbabwe has resulted in both the Warriors and Mighty Warriors playing international home games outside Zimbabwe, as no facility is fit to host CAF matches currently.
The National Sports Stadium was banned by FIFA and CAF in November 2019, after the giant facility failed a series of inspections.
Since their election to power in December last year, the Magwizi-led board has also been using a rented house in Milton Park as their offices.
Fanzone has it on good authority that Magwizi last week approached mogul and former ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa over land for the construction of a stadium and the country’s football governing body’s headquarters.
“The president (Nqobile Magwizi) approached Philip Chiyangwa because the association wants to purchase land for the construction of a stadium and headquarters,” a source at ZIFA said.
“The new administration is looking to have a modern stadium as well as headquarters in the mold of FIFA’s Zurich offices,” added the source.
Among the many things Magwizi promised when he was campaigning for the ZIFA presidency last year were a modern stadium as well as the improvement of players’ welfare.
