Wolves drop Munetsi bombshell, insist Warriors star is still injured despite loan move to Paris FC

Wolverhampton Wonderers insist Marshall Munetsi is still injured despite completing his loan move to French Ligue 1 side Paris FC, vindicating ZIFA’s decision to exclude the player from the Warriors squad for AFCON 2025.

Tension between Munetsi and the Nqobile Magwizi-led ZIFA administration marred preparations for the AFCON 2025 finals in Morocco, as the country’s football governing body revealed that the Mabvuku-bred midfielder could not take part in the continental spectacle due to a calf injury.

Munetsi on the other hand, insisted that he was on the recovery path and could feature in the second group game, a proposal the soft-spoken midfielder claimed had the blessing of Wolves.

However, in their statement announcing Munetsi loan move to Paris FC for the rest of the season, Wolves said the Warriors star, who was last in the match day squad on December 3, has not fully recovered.

“Marshall Munetsi has moved to French outfit Paris PC for the remainder of the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season,” reads a statement on the Wolves website.

“The 29-year-old has featured 15 times for Wolves this season, scoring in the Premier League against Burnley and in the Carabao Cup victory over Everton at Molineux.

“But only two of the midfielder’s appearances have been under Rob Edwards, after Munetsi suffered a calf injury which has left him on the sidelines for the last six weeks and saw the Zimbabwean captain miss out on leading his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“As he nears his return from injury, Munetsi will now spend the rest of the current season in France as he heads to Paris FC on loan.

“The midfielder initially joined Wolves 12 months ago from Ligue 1 side Reims, having stepped out almost 150 times and scored 21 goals in the French top flight.

“In his first season in gold and black, Munetsi scored twice 16 outings and provided a spark to help Wolves remain in the Premier League for an eighth successive year.

“Everyone at Wolves would like to wish Marshall the very best for his loan spell.”
