Why TelOne FC elevated former striker Jacob Muzokomba

In an exciting development, TelOne FC has handed Jacob Muzokomba a lifeline, promoting him to be one of Herbert Maruwa’s assistants. Club president Oscar Nduwure says the decision is meant to motivate players to value loyalty.

Muzokomba was elevated to the team’s second assistant coach, taking over from Chasten Ngondonga, who left at the end of 2025 when his contract expired. Former N’ombeyaora assistant coach Charles Mutero was appointed first assistant coach, a position previously held by John Ncube.

The two commenced work at the Gweru-based side last week, as The Wifi Boys squad is shaping up following the arrival of new players, including Jerry Chipangura, Innocent Mucheneka, and Takudzwa Chikosi.

Muzokomba, a former striker, played for several local clubs that include Buffaloes, Dynamos, Manica Diamonds, and Manzini Sundowns in Eswatini. He had spells at Lancashire Steel, Highlanders, and the now defunct, Nichrut FC and at some point won the PSL Golden Boot.

In 2019, he joined TelOne, then under Joel Lupahla as a player before and transitioned into coaching. He attained his CAF B license in 2025 and has been one of the club’s analysts. In an interview with FanZone, TelOne FC club president Oscar Nduwure said:

“The two coaches left at the end of the year following the end of their contracts. And as a club, we decided to promote Muzokomba. This serves as an important indication that loyalty must be rewarded.

“Our players must know that loyalty is rewarded. So his promotion is important in that it’s meant to motivate the players that it’s possible. His development as a coach has happened under our wing, and we hope to get the rewards soon.”
