Vinicius Junior has reportedly suspended discussions over a new contract with Real Madrid. Although he continues to play an important role in Xabi Alonso’s squad, his long-term future at the club has become increasingly uncertain.
Reports suggest the club believed a fresh agreement had been reached earlier in the summer, with plans to formalize it later. However, those expectations have been disrupted, with no final decision or signature confirmed.
The Brazilian forward is currently on a delayed summer holiday following Real Madrid’s journey to the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals. Some within the club’s hierarchy are said to be dissatisfied with his recent performances during the team’s tour of the United States, which may influence upcoming decisions.
Contract length and salary dispute
Vinicius remains under contract with the Spanish side until 2027. Despite this, the club has been aiming to extend that agreement until 2030 to secure his services for the long term. However, no new deal has been finalized, and the situation has drawn the attention of Saudi Pro League teams.
According to Cadena COPE, Vinicius is requesting a salary exceeding €25 million per season, seeking parity with teammate Kylian Mbappe. Real Madrid had initially believed an agreement had been made on a lower figure and are reluctant to meet the new financial demands, causing the negotiations to stall.
Player’s commitment in question
Speaking during the Club World Cup, Vinicius reaffirmed his dedication to the club, stating: “I hope I can stay here for many years. I’ve always said it’s the club of my life. I’m very happy with the coach and the staff, I hope I can stay.”
He added, “I have a two-year contract until 2027. I want to stay for my entire career and make history in this team.” Despite these remarks, the unresolved contract situation continues to cast a shadow, with Real Madrid eager to avoid the risk of the player entering the final stages of his current deal without clarity over his future.
