Vardy fires Cremonese to crucial win in Bologna

Jamie Vardy delivered his first brace in Italy’s top flight, steering Cremonese to a valuable victory against a Bologna side previously unbeaten at home.

The 38-year-old forward struck twice, ensuring the promoted club halted a run of three straight defeats. His goals also denied the hosts the chance to move within a single point of AC Milan and Napoli.

Cremonese went ahead when Martin Payero finished confidently just past the half-hour mark. Moments later, Vardy timed a run perfectly to slip beyond the defense and guide the ball past Federico Ravaglia, doubling the visitors’ lead.

Bologna briefly revived their hopes through Riccardo Orsolini, who converted from the spot to narrow the gap.

Veteran striker leads by example

Vardy’s second goal arrived early in the second half, punishing Bologna again on a rain-soaked night at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. He later joked that the conditions reminded him of a typical midweek evening in England but emphasized that the main priority was ending the losing streak.

The forward highlighted the squad’s collective determination, insisting that every player is fully committed to pushing the club forward.

He now has four goals in nine league appearances, offering crucial experience to a side aiming for stability in the top tier.

Cremonese sit mid-table with 17 points from their opening 13 fixtures, a promising position after coming up from Serie B.

Coach praises Vardy’s attitude

Manager Davide Nicola hailed the striker, pointing out that established performers often require little instruction because they understand their responsibilities. He praised Vardy’s mindset, describing him as a player who stands out for both quality and character.

According to Nicola, the former Premier League winner arrived with a willingness to contribute selflessly and fit seamlessly into the team’s plans.

Vardy joined the club in September on a free transfer, signing a deal that includes the option for an extra season if the team avoids relegation.

Before his move to Italy, he scored 200 times in 500 appearances for Leicester City and lifted both the Premier League trophy and the FA Cup. He also represented England 26 times, finding the net on seven occasions.
