Matias Soule scored a sensational equalizer as Roma and Lazio shared the points in a lively Rome derby, stretching Roma’s unbeaten Serie A streak to 16 matches.
Alessio Romagnoli, who grew up supporting Lazio, put his side in front shortly after the interval. The defender rose to meet Luca Pellegrini’s curling delivery from a set piece, powering a header past Mile Svilar for the opening goal.
The visitors responded immediately with Gianluca Mancini nearly drawing them level, but Christos Mandas – making only his third start in Serie A – pulled off an exceptional save to preserve Lazio’s lead. The Roma pressure continued to build, and they were rewarded when Soule unleashed a magnificent curling shot that struck the underside of the crossbar, crossed the goal line, rebounded against the bar once more, and finally flew out.
High tension on and off the pitch
Emotions boiled over multiple times during a tense second half, underlining the deep-rooted rivalry between the two sides. Security presence was heavy outside the stadium, with reports indicating around 2,000 officers were stationed in the area. Tear gas was used as clashes broke out with sections of the Lazio support.
The final moments saw both sides pushing for a winner. Svilar came up big again, stopping Boulaye Dia with a rapid double save. At the other end, Soule came close to grabbing a late winner with another bold effort that just missed.
Lazio remain in sixth place following the draw, keeping a narrow two-point edge over Roma, who are closing in on the European places after a challenging start to the season.
Elsewhere, Atalanta got back to winning ways with a 2-0 triumph over Bologna, ending their recent losing streak and climbing to third in the standings.
