Defending champions Simba Bhora totally outclassed struggling Harare giants CAPS United and emerged 3-1 victors in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.
Joel Luphahla’s charges came into the clash oozing with confidence after last week’s 4-0 demolition of relegation-threatened Triangle United.
Goals by Barnabas Mtuche, Donald Mudadi, and Emmanuel Ziocha carried the day for Go Buju Go, while Junior Bunjira got the consolation for Makepekepe.
Simba have now scored an impressive seven goals in their last two matches.
Their coach, Joel Luphahla, was very clear on his ambition when asked about it during his post-match interview – to ensure the championship returns to Shamva.
“When I came in, I was asked by the club leadership, ‘From number one, where is the next step?’. Obviously it can’t be number 2; it has to be number one again,” said Luphahla.
“We are battling to retain the championship; that’s why there is a lot of pressure when we drop points and the other teams win. That’s why you have a situation whereby phone calls will be coming from everywhere.
“But I was very open with my boys; I told them we have to run our own race. We cannot be playing while looking at our phones to see how MWOS or Scotland would have played,” said Luphahla.
The defeat for CAPS means they have not tasted victory since Zambian mentor Ian Bakala replaced Lloyd Chitembwe in their dugout.
They played out 1–1 stalemates with Herentals and equally struggling city rivals Dynamos at Rufaro.
