Sheasham FC’s future in doubt as disbandment rumours swirl

Sheasham FC, a powerhouse in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League, is on the brink of missing the 2026 season, following a tumultuous 2025 campaign, it has emerged.

The Gweru-based club, who played bridesmaids to eventual 2025 title winners Hardrock FC, have been mum about their future and are yet to confirm participation in the upcoming campaign, leaving ZIFA Central Region officials guessing, exactly two weeks after the set deadline.

Fanzone understands that club owner Clever Mandaza has given up on battling for PSL promotion and has decided to fully venture into junior development, fronted by former Caps United and Highlanders FC striker Michael Mageja.

Last season, Sheasham FC had a drama-filled campaign on and off the field of play. They started the campaign on a blistering note, going on a 23-match unbeaten run, leading the 18-team league, but were dramatically dislodged by Hardrock FC when the competition reached its boiling point.

Moreover, they threatened to withdraw from the league following a dramatic 3-2 defeat at the hands of MSU FC on 4 October 2025. The club cited poor officiating among other reasons for their planned withdrawal. However, they returned to action less than a week later and finished the season in second position.

When the season ended, the club withdrew everything that belonged to them, including training kits and tracksuits from players. Furthermore, they also let go off coach Prince Matore, who has already joined Hardrock FC as Kelvin Kaindu’s second assistant coach.

Meanwhile the bulk of their playing personnel are currently club hunting. Already, striker Wilfred Madzungu, goalkeeper Elton Sibanda, and midfielder David Mangesi have found places in the PSL.

Madzungu and Sibanda joined Hardrock, while Mangesi joined four-time PSL Champions, FC Platinum. Most players who were at the Gweru-based club are trying their luck at GMB-owned Grain Tigers, which also competes in the Central Region.
