Shabanie Mine turning back the hands of time in Central region

Former PSL side Shabanie Mine are turning back the hands of time in the Central Region Soccer League with solid performances, just two matches into the 2026 season.

The Chinda boys are cruising nicely and are sitting pretty at the top of the log table with six points from two games.

On Tuesday, Shabanie Mine beat FC Platinum Under-19s 2-0 at Mandava Stadium in the Zvishavane derby. They also beat Super Strikers FC 2-0 in the first match of the season.

Under Andrew Chisunga, the 2013 BancABC Super Cup winners have left the small mining town buzzing, and that’s been made sweeter by their victory over FC Platinum.

KWEKWE UNITED IN WINNING START

In other matches played, Kwekwe United marked their return to the lower-tier league with a narrow 1-0 win over ZRP Gwanda at Phelandaba Stadium. Donald Ngoma scored their priceless goal against the policemen.

Kwekwe United have a game in hand, as their Week 1 match against MSU FC was postponed due to the former’s participation in the University Games.

At Mbizo Stadium, GMB-owned Grain Tigers registered their first win of the season when they beat Good Morning FC.

Meanwhile, Blanket Mine beat Dulibadzimu United 2-0 at Sabiwa Stadium in Gwanda, while Super Strikers and Gwanda Pirates drew 0-0 in a match played at Phelandaba Stadium on Monday.

Former PSL side Chapungu put up a brave fight to beat Vhembe Stars Academy 2-0 at Ronnies Stadium in Beitbridge on Monday.

Newbies Shurugwi marked their first home match at Makusha Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Tongogara FC on Monday, while Matobo FC beat Sabi Gold Mine 2-1 at Minda High School on Monday.

One match between MSU FC and West Nicholson was postponed. The match has been rescheduled for 22 April at MSU FC grounds.
