Shabanie Mine FC takes new trajectory, targets PSL by 2027

They may seem forgotten, but Shabanie Mine FC, one of Zimbabwe’s oldest football teams, has embarked on a new trajectory of revival, targeting a sensational return to the PSL by 2027.

Shabanie Mine FC were relegated at the end of the 2018 season, with their failure to rise from the ashes mainly attributed to financial struggles.

The Zvishavane outfit, which boasts one of the most loyal and fervent supporters from the community of Maglas, has still struggled to be felt in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League.

Teams have come and gone to the PSL, leaving a club that won the famous 2013 BancABC Super Cup languishing in the lower tier league.

And for the last four seasons, they have even struggled to raise funds for affiliation. But their recently renewed leadership under businessman Phelandaba Mpofu has taken a new trajectory to awaken the sleeping giant.

“This is a community team, and now it is our target to make sure that we involve them. Over the years, a few individuals have been running the team,” Mpofu said.

“I took over last year and tried restore things. So now our hope is to gain promotion by 2027, but that can only be achieved if we make sure that all fundamentals are in place.

“Unlike in the past, everyone must be included, which is why we recently refreshed our leadership to make sure we start the 2026 season on a fresh page. A top finish in Central Region, is what we want, but by 2027 is year we want to win the promotion ticket to the PSL,” Mpofu told FanZone.

Last season, The Chinda boys ended the season on 10th position with 42 points, which is 48 points behind league winners, Hardrock FC.
