Scottland to face PSL wrath as club mourns benefactor after helicopter tragedy

Scottland FC are set to face the wrath of the Premier Soccer League after being charged for allegedly fielding an ineligible player, in what could be a major blow for the ambitious club at a time they are mourning their benefactor.
The charge comes at a deeply difficult moment for Scottland FC, who are mourning the death of their benefactor, Wicknell Chivayo, who perished in a helicopter crash on Wednesday.
In a letter dated 1 October 2026, the PSL confirmed it has instituted disciplinary proceedings against the club.
The league stated: “The Premier Soccer League has charged Scottland FC for allegedly fielding an ineligible player, Witbeen Stoffel, in their Chibuku Super Cup tie against FC Platinum at Rufaro on 14 August 2026.”
The charge is in terms of the cup competition’s regulations. According to the PSL letter, “The club has been charged with contravening Article 8.4 as read together with Article 4.1 of the Chibuku Super Cup Rules and Regulations.”

PSL SETS DEADLINE FOR SCOTTLAND TO MAKE AN WRITTEN PLEA
Scottland FC have been given until Friday 2 October 2026 to file their written plea, submissions or defence outline. The matter does not end there. The PSL has revealed that a second case involving the same player has been referred to the mother body.
“A case related to the same player has been referred to ZIFA for determination, regarding a match played in the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup,” the letter reads.
If found guilty, Scottland could face sanctions ranging from a fine to disqualification from the Chibuku Super Cup, depending on the ruling of the disciplinary committee.
The timing could not be worse. Scottland are juggling a demanding schedule, fighting on many fronts as they seek to make an impression in the CAF Champions League while also battling to retain the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.
Now, with grief in the camp following the helicopter tragedy and a disciplinary cloud hanging over them, focus will be tested as they prepare their defence before the PSL.
