CAPS United will be looking to continue their revival in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League when they face a faltering Green Fuel side this weekend in Matchday 18.
CAPS come into the clash buoyed by a noticeable upturn in form. With three wins from their last five matches and five overall this season, they’ve started to lift themselves from early-season struggles. Just before Matchday 12, CAPS were languishing in 15th, flirting dangerously close to the relegation zone. Now in 11th, they seem to be on the right track and playing with renewed belief.
In contrast, Green Fuel appear to be in a downward spiral. Without a win in their last five matches – losing two and drawing three – their season has taken a worrying turn. The slump began in Matchday 13 with a disappointing draw against bottom-placed Kwekwe United, a side that has struggled against nearly every opponent. Matters worsened in Matchday 15 when Green Fuel lost their unbeaten home record in a defeat to TelOne, and just last weekend they suffered a humiliating 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Triangle.
The pressure finally told, with coach Taurai Mangwiro being moved to the role of Technical Director. Rodwell Dhlakama now steps in as head coach, and this will be his first match at the helm.
Given the current trajectories of both sides, with CAPS steadily improving and Green Fuel in disarray, this looks set to be a difficult debut for Dhlakama. CAPS will fancy their chances, especially with momentum on their side.
