Raza to Lead Fresh-Looking Zimbabwe Side into High-Stakes T20I Tri-Series

Zimbabwe have unveiled a 16-man squad for the upcoming T20I tri-series on home soil, which will see the Chevrons face off against South Africa and New Zealand from 14 to 26 July at Harare Sports Club. With a mix of established names and promising debutants, the squad reflects a forward-looking strategy as Zimbabwe enter a pivotal phase in their white-ball campaign.

Sikandar Raza will captain the side once again, bringing his wealth of experience to the helm as Zimbabwe prepare to battle two of the strongest limited-overs teams in the world. Raza’s leadership will be vital in navigating what promises to be a fiercely competitive series.

The squad welcomes back a few key players from injury. Left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava returns after recovering from a lower-back issue, while highly rated all-rounder Brian Bennett is also fit again following a concussion sustained during the recent Test series against South Africa.

Several players retain their spots from Zimbabwe’s last T20I series against Ireland, including Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga and Tashinga Musekiwa, all of whom made strong contributions earlier in the year. Their inclusion provides continuity and experience in the squad’s middle order.

Looking to the future, Zimbabwe have handed T20I opportunities to three uncapped players. Wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga, left-arm pacer Newman Nyamhuri, and leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa will all be hoping to make their mark. Their inclusion not only adds depth but also signals Zimbabwe’s intention to widen their talent pool ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

With matches scheduled against South Africa and New Zealand, both currently among the top-ranked sides in global T20I cricket, the tri-series offers a valuable test for this developing Zimbabwe side. For Raza and his men, it’s a chance to sharpen their skills, test squad depth, and build momentum on home turf.

Zimbabwe Squad: Sikandar Raza (captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Trevor Gwandu, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Tinotenda Maposa, Wellington Masakadza, Vincent Masekesa, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Tafadzwa Tsiga.
