Raya rewarded with new Arsenal deal to reflect growing importance

Arsenal has handed David Raya a revised agreement that highlights his growing influence under Mikel Arteta. The Spain international has agreed to an increased salary compared to the one he signed after making his move permanent in the summer of 2024. Although the improved terms were settled earlier in the year, the club has not yet made the news public.

Raya previously earned around £100,000 each week, but his pay has been raised as part of the new arrangement. The duration of the deal remains unchanged, with his current contract due to run until 2028 and including an option for an additional year.

Leandro Trossard also signed improved terms earlier this year without adding extra years to his deal, which runs to 2027. Like Raya, his contract adjustment was not publicly announced.

Consistent excellence since joining from Brentford

The goalkeeper initially arrived from Brentford on loan in 2023 before signing permanently the following year. Since then, he has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout performers between the posts.

Raya collected the Golden Gloves award in 2023/24 and retained it the following season, sharing the honor with Mats Sels of Nottingham Forest. His performances have made him a fixture in Arteta’s starting lineup, missing only six league matches overall and featuring in every Premier League minute since March 2024.

Outstanding numbers underline his value

The Spaniard’s record since his debut at Goodison Park against Everton in September 2023 is unmatched. He has registered 33 clean sheets in the league — six more than any other goalkeeper over that period.

Despite early doubts about his reflexes, his save percentage stands at 71%, a figure surpassed by only three regular starters in the competition since the beginning of the 2023–24 campaign.

Raya also leads the division for time between conceding, letting in one goal every 114 minutes on average. Ederson follows with a goal conceded every 96 minutes, while Alisson is third on 84.

Arsenal continue to secure key players

The club has been active in retaining core members of Arteta’s squad. Discussions are under way with Jurrien Timber regarding a long-term extension, and talks with Bukayo Saka are at an advanced stage.

William Saliba recently agreed to a new five-year contract, while Gabriel Magalhaes extended his stay until 2029 earlier this year.
