Rashford talks partnership with Yamal

Marcus Rashford has hinted at a desire to team up with Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal in the future. The Manchester United forward, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, is currently preparing for the new campaign with private fitness work in Spain.

Speaking to Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz, Rashford responded positively when asked about the idea of playing with Yamal, saying: “Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we’ll see.”

The 17-year-old Yamal played a crucial role in Barcelona’s double-winning season and contributed heavily to Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph. Rashford praised the young talent, highlighting his composure and performance level despite his age. “He is not supposed to be doing that at 16-17. We have not seen that before,” Rashford remarked.

United future uncertain after Amorim fallout

Rashford’s future at Old Trafford remains unclear, especially after reports earlier this year suggested he doubted a return to the squad while Ruben Amorim remains in charge.

The Portuguese manager left Rashford out of the squad in December, and the forward spent the rest of the season at Villa Park. His exclusion led to ongoing speculation that his time at Manchester United could be nearing its end.

Barcelona interest and financial challenges

Barcelona have previously shown an interest in Rashford. Sporting director Deco has acknowledged the club’s admiration for both Rashford and Liverpool’s Luis Díaz. However, financial limitations remain a major obstacle to any potential transfer.

The club recently reached an agreement with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, but the move is not finalized due to La Liga’s financial rules. Under the ‘1:1 rule’, clubs can only spend within the bounds of their calculated income and expenditure cap.

While Rashford has mostly operated from the left wing during his United career, he indicated progress in adjusting to a central forward role. “The number nine position is becoming more natural,” he explained. “Playing with my back to goal is becoming easier.”
