Pickford commits to Everton until 2029

Jordan Pickford has put pen to paper on a fresh contract that ties him to Everton through the summer of 2029. The 31-year-old arrived at Goodison Park from Sunderland in 2017 for £30 million — a record fee for a British goalkeeper at that moment. His previous deal had been due to run out in 2027, but the new terms extend his stay by two more years.

The England international expressed his excitement about the decision, describing it as a chance to create something lasting with the club. He reflected on his journey since leaving the North East, calling his time on Merseyside meaningful both professionally and personally. Pickford said he feels the club has turned a corner and is ready to push forward collectively.

Building a legacy at Goodison Park

Since joining, Pickford has featured 326 times in all competitions, been named Everton’s player of the year on four occasions, and earned all 80 of his international caps while representing the Toffees.

He shared his desire to leave a lasting mark similar to that of Neville Southall, widely regarded as the club’s greatest ever goalkeeper. Southall made 751 appearances, a benchmark Pickford hopes to approach or even surpass by the end of his career.

The shot-stopper also pointed to his record-breaking international form. He has registered nine consecutive clean sheets for England and has not let in a goal for the national team for more than a year.

Optimism on and off the pitch

Pickford’s commitment follows another key renewal earlier in the month, when captain James Tarkowski agreed to stay for two additional years. The early stages of the league campaign have brought signs of progress, with the squad, coaching staff, and new ownership aiming to restore Everton’s competitive edge.

The goalkeeper believes the recent structural changes have brought fresh ambition. He praised the leadership for their vision and spoke of the team’s shared objective of returning to European competition. He also expressed hope that future seasons will bring trophies back to the blue half of Merseyside.
