Lloyd Mutasa pointed to the heavens as once again and probably not for the last time, as a penalty conceded by MWOS, was missed at Ngoni Stadium.
Bulawayo Chiefs were awarded a late penalty during Sunday’s entertaining clash and Brian Muza stepped up, only to be brilliantly denied by Francis Tizayi.
MWOS have conceded three penalties at Ngoni Stadium in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and none of them have been scored.
Interestingly, when all those three penalties were awarded, the score board at Ngoni, read 2-1 in the second half.
Last season, TelOne were awarded a spot kick at Ngoni, with Herbert Maruwa’s charges leading 2-1 in a very tense encounter.
Washington Navaya, who had received the Player of the Month cheque before kick off and at the peak of this powers leading the goal scorers’ chart, stepped up.
For a striker who had found the back of the net 12 times already at the time, many, except Mutasa perhaps, were anticipating an obvious result – goal.
Mutasa knelt down on the touch line in prayer, and Navaya, to the disbelief of his teammates, failed to convert.
Two months later, Harare giants CAPS United invaded Ngoni Stadium and with MWOS leading 2-1, The Green Machine were awarded a late penalty.
Eric Manokore stepped up and blazed his effort from 12 yards over the cross bar, failing to restore parity for CAPS in the process.
Mutasa lifted his index fingers, pointed to the heavens again in celebration and perhaps thanks-giving, to symbolize spiritual devotion and connection to God.
When asked on Larry’s Look at the League about how his faith impacted his trade, Mutasa was quick to explain its importance.
“My faith is very important in my line of work. In life, you are bound to work with people who don’t believe in the importance of faith but I’m not one of them,” said Mutasa.
“Biblically, the power of the tongue is spoken about. What you say with your mouth impacts your life both positively and negatively.
“I kneel down in prayer because I will be believing that the prayer will be answered because that has happened on several occasions in my career.
“Some times, it will be the inner me telling me to kneel down and pray, that’s why results come instantly,” added Mutasa.
