Nyoni lashes out at Highlanders executive: ‘Ego is smaller than success’

‎Former Highlanders Football Club striker Gabriel Nyoni has seemingly taken a swipe at his old club, criticizing their lack of support for head coach Benjani Mwaruwari.

‎In a scathing Facebook video, Nyoni slammed the club’s executive, accusing them of prioritizing their own egos over the team’s success.

‎The controversy surrounds head coach Benjani Mwaruwari, who has been facing mounting pressure to deliver results.

‎Bosso have drawn all six of their opening matches, and some disgruntled fans have been calling for his head.

‎The situation took a turn for the worse during a few weeks ago at Babourfields Stadium against Mwos FC, when a fan threw a missile at Mwaruwari, missing him by a whisker.

‎Nyoni, a former Highlanders FC legend, questioned the decision-making process at the club, suggesting that some executives are sabotaging the coach’s efforts.

‎”An executive that hires the coach, sabotages the same coach. How is that possible?’ Nyoni asked, highlighting the challenges Mwaruwari faces amidst internal conflicts. ”So there are people within the club that have a right ego, that have an exaggerated sense of self-importance. So these people want their own choices to be made, their own decisions to be made within the club at the expense of the club.”

‎Nyoni’s comments come as no surprise, given Mwaruwari’s public frustration with the executive.

‎The coach has cited a lack of support and ignored recommendations on player recruitment as major concerns.

‎“I know when I came here almost everyone didn’t want me, but I will try my best to do what I can,” said Mwaruwari a few days ago in the run up to the Scottland FC clash.

‎Mwaruwari’s appointment was a surprise, coming after the club relieved South African coach Thabo Senong of his duties before the season started.

‎Senong had been appointed earlier in the year, but it seems his vision wasn’t aligned with that of the executive.

‎Nyoni believes that Mwaruwari deserves better.

‎He emphasized the importance of unity and support for the coach, citing examples of other clubs backing their managers.

‎”We should all as a club support the coach that we have selected. The success of the club is more important than your own ego or exaggerated sense of self-importance,’ he said. ‘Your ego is small than the success of the club.”

‎The situation at Highlanders FC is dire, with the team struggling on the pitch and internal conflicts brewing.

‎The executive has been under fire since suspending CEO Denzel Mkandla 24 hours ago, amid allegations of financial mismanagement.

‎Nyoni’s words serve as a wake-up call for the Bosso executive to put the team’s interests first.

‎It is time for them to put aside their egos and work towards a common goal: success for Highlanders FC.

‎Bosso last won the Premier Soccer League in 2006.

‎As the club navigates this challenging period, fans are left wondering what the future holds.

‎Will Mwaruwari be given the support he needs to turn things around?

‎Or will the gymnasts in the executive room bring him down?

‎Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Bosso are in a difficult patch, and drastic measures are needed to quell their success hungry fan base.

‎In the meantime, Nyoni’s message will likely resonate with fans, who are eager for change.

‎”The success of the club is more important than your own ego or exaggerated sense of self-importance,’ Nyoni said. ‘Let’s support the decisions that we have made, and give the coach what he needs to succeed.”
