Ngezi Platinum Stars FC suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Yadah FC on 30 April at Baobab Stadium, a result that has sent ripples through the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. What was once a team tipped for title contention now finds itself in a worrying spiral, winless in their last four outings.
The match began with both sides cautiously feeling each other out, but it was Yadah who showed more intent early on. Their attacking confidence paid off in the 15th minute when Sango was brought down in the box, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Ngezi players were visibly frustrated by the decision, but Francis Mustafa stepped up and calmly slotted the ball home to give Yadah a 1-0 lead.
From that point, Yadah played with renewed belief, creating multiple chances that tested Ngezi’s defensive shape. Despite failing to extend their lead in the first half, their aggression unsettled the home side, who went into the break trailing.
Ngezi responded in the second half with renewed urgency. They dominated possession and peppered the Yadah goal with attack after attack. Their pressure finally bore fruit in the 66th minute when Makuwe headed in a well-placed cross to level the score at 1-1, briefly lifting the spirits of the home supporters.
But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Just eight minutes later, Yadah struck again, with Sango redeeming his earlier penalty incident by finding the back of the net in the 74th minute. It was a goal that knocked the wind out of Ngezi’s sails.
Despite their best efforts in the final minutes, Ngezi could not find an equaliser. The final whistle confirmed a disappointing 2-1 loss, prompting questions about their recent form. After a strong start to the season—including a headline 1-0 away win against a powerful Scottland FC side—Ngezi now appear to be losing their grip.
For a club with championship ambitions, this latest result is a major setback. They’ll need to regroup quickly if they hope to revive their campaign.
