Ngezi Platinum Hand MWOS FC First Defeat of the Season in Commanding Fashion

Ngezi Platinum stunned Premier Soccer League leaders MWOS FC on Sunday with a spirited 3-1 victory at Baobab Stadium, handing the Norton-based side their first defeat of the season on matchday 17.

Coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to Chicken Inn in Bulawayo just days earlier, Ngezi were under pressure to respond – and they did so in style. Right from the first whistle, they came out with intent, and it took just two minutes for Chirinda to find the back of the net, catching MWOS off guard and setting the tone for the afternoon.

MWOS, to their credit, regained composure and found an equaliser in the 20th minute through Veremus, giving the visitors a momentary sense of relief. The first half was tightly contested, with both teams creating chances but unable to break the deadlock before the interval, going into half-time level at 1-1.

The second half, however, belonged to Ngezi. In the 55th minute, Karengesha struck a superb goal to restore Ngezi’s lead, and from that moment, the momentum shifted decisively. MWOS appeared rattled and struggled to match Ngezi’s energy and precision. In the 73rd minute, Chirinda completed his brace, extending the lead to 3-1 and effectively sealing the result.

It was a dominant performance by Ngezi, who looked the hungrier and more organised side throughout. Their victory not only lifted them into 5th place on the log but also sent a statement of intent to the rest of the league.

For MWOS, the loss is a bitter blow. Their unbeaten run has come to an end, and with Simba Bhora securing a win a 0-1 win away against Yadah, MWOS now drop to second place – one point behind the new leaders.

Ngezi will look to build on this momentum when they face Kwekwe United this coming weekend, while MWOS will be eager to bounce back quickly and keep their title hopes on track.
