Former CAPS United defender Stephen Makatuka has joined the latest trend of retired footballers venturing into coaching, completing his CAF C coaching course in South Africa.
Makatuka, who also played for South African Betway Premiership side Amazulu FC, finished the course on Friday and told Fanzone that he is set to return home tomorrow, eager to apply his newfound knowledge.
“I am very happy to have finished this course, it is not an easy step to take because you know coaching is more stressful than playing,” said Makatuka.
The former hard man, who recently led FC Hunters to the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League championship glory, is targeting to advance in coaching, gaining experience and maybe one day leading a team.
“My target is just to advance in learning and one day maybe I will be coaching, although it is not an easy thing because it requires a lot of experience to nature it,” Makatuka said.
Makatuka’s decorated career saw him win the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League championship with CAPS in 2016, before moving to Mbabane Swallows Football Club in Swaziland, then resurfacing at FC Hunters, capping off a nomadic career.
His classmates included fellow Zimbabweans Lillian Masase, assistant coach at Harare City Queens FC in the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League, and Tendai Samanja, assistant coach at Harare City FC men’s team in the Northern Region Soccer League.
The trio is set to bring their newfound knowledge back to Zimbabwe, potentially shaking up the coaching scene.
