In a whirlwind move, Clifford Dzvairo has been officially unveiled as the new assistant coach of Ngezi Platinum Stars, joining the ranks of Zimbabwe’s football elite after steering FC Hunters to Premier Soccer League promotion.
The 28-year-old tactician, fresh from securing his CAF B coaching license in Tanzania, spoke exclusively to Fanzone about his new role, highlighting gratitude for it and the eagerness to succeed.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of this great football club, to learn and contribute value,” said Dzvairo.
”I’m here to add value to the team. It’s been always my dream to be in the PSL, and it really came at the right time for me. Now it’s time to work and contribute to the success of this team under the leadership of my brother Coach Mutiwekuziva,” he added.
Dzvairo, who made history as the youngest coach to lead a Division One team team to the country’s top flight league, acknowledged the stark contrast between the PSL and lower division football.
“There’s a big difference between the PSL and Division One – the mentality, intensity, everything. In the PSL, players know it’s the top league, so standards are higher. You have to drive the intensity levels higher than in Division One.”
At Ngezi Platinum, Dzvairo will deputize seasoned coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, targeting big trophies and success at the former champions.
“Ngezi is a big club with a rich history, consistently in the top four. We aim to add beautiful trophies and make Ngezi happy,” said Dzvairo.
On his mission, the young tactician said: “My main goal is to learn and assist my head coach. Whatever he says, let’s do – I’ll support him wholeheartedly. If it comes to fruition, then I’ve also passed and won.
“It’s a new environment and a different role altogether for me, and all I can say is I’m learning a lot,” he added.
