MWOS set early pace, go top of the table

Premiership debutants MWOS FC showed they are not in the country’s top flight to add numbers after dismissing Yadah 2-0 at the Baobab Stadium yesterday—a result that sent them to the top of the table.

Lloyd Mutasa’s charges have started the season well and went into the clash with four points from their opening two matches- a 1-0 victory over Highlanders and a 1-1 draw with Bikita Minerals.

They (MWOS) got off to the perfect start, when in-form Billy Veremu thrust them ahead with just seven minutes on the clock, when he headed home a cheeky pass from Jeremiah Makangira.

Referee Tichaona Marimbe then made a controversial decision to send off Tino Mutyambizi in the 24th minute, adjudging that the midfield workhorse had made a dangerous challenge.

Despite mounting pressure from Yadah, buoyed by the red card, MWOS held on to take a 1-0 lead into the half time interval.

Veremu should have had his and MWOS just after minutes after the restart but was brilliantly denied from close range by George Munhupedzi in goal for Yadah.

The Punters doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Wilson Mensah tapped in from close range after brilliant work on the left flank by Tafadzwa George.

Mutasa’ troops missed a glut of chances to extended their lead but held on to collect maximum points, to the delight of the veteran coach.

“I am happy with the game play. Happy that, Billy managed to get another goal. Mensah was good since his introduction, and it’s a good thing to have different goal-scorers,” Mutasa said after the game.

“We could have scored more, but as you saw, the conversion of chances into goals is something we need to work on. We could have scored more, and we didn’t, that an area to work on,” he added.
