MWOS Edge Highlanders to Regain Top Spot in PSL

MWOS FC secured a 0-1 victory over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, a result that sees the Norton-based club return to the summit of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table.

Coming off their first defeat of the season against Ngezi Platinum, MWOS approached the match looking to bounce back. The fixture provided a stern test, but the visitors produced a disciplined performance that was ultimately rewarded with all three points.

Both teams showed intent early in the match. MWOS created one of the first clear chances when Tafadzwa George delivered a dangerous cross in the 10th minute, forcing a save from the Highlanders goalkeeper. On the other end, the hosts managed to pose threats of their own, including a promising corner from Matinha in the 25th minute, though neither side was able to find a breakthrough before halftime.

The second half saw MWOS increase their attacking pressure. George’s 59th-minute free kick was blocked, and the introduction of substitute Makangira in the 66th minute gave the visitors more attacking options.

The decisive moment came in the 88th minute when forward Salif Cheya found space and calmly finished to give MWOS the lead. Highlanders were unable to respond in the closing minutes, and the match ended 1–0 in favour of the visitors.

The win sees MWOS return to the top of the league standings, taking advantage of Simba Bhora’s draw at Mandava. Highlanders, meanwhile, continue to search for consistency as they adjust to changes within their technical team.
