Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari has blasted his way into the headlines, laying bare the bitter reality of his tumultuous tenure, revealing that no one wanted him in the job.
Mwaruwari took over the reigns at Bosso at the start of the season, albeit under controversial circumstances. Highlanders FC had first opted for South African mentor Thabo Senong, but they ditched him at the eleventh hour.
They made a shocking U-turn after handing Senong a two-year contract, as his tenure was cut short when he discovered purported ‘permit issues’ coincided with the club’s plans to appoint Mwaruwari as head coach.
Mwaruwari was appointed based on their sponsor, Wicknell Chivhayo’s condition that they would receive a massive windfall if they handed him the job.
MWARUWARI’S EXPLOSIVE CLAIMS
However, just four games into his time at the club, Mwaruwari seems unhappy with events at the club. It appears the former Warriors striker is enduring repercussions of his shambolic appointment.
“I’m sorry to say this, but I have to be open about some of the things that are happening. I’ve been working in difficult conditions. Everyone didn’t want me here. That’s a fact,” Mwaruwari said during a press conference on Thursday.
As it stands, fans are waiting with bated breath to see how the Highlanders FC leadership will address Mwaruwari’s explosive claims.
But it’s clear the internal dynamics at the club are messy, and the pressure is mounting on the former Manchester City forward.
Mwaruwari is yet to register a win as Highlanders FC are still waiting for their first win of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, with four draws from four matches.
They are looking to turn things around when they host FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on Friday. This is a crucial match for Highlanders, especially considering their recent struggles.
