Mwaruwari breaks silence on Mbeba’s contract situation

Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari has addressed Andrew Mbeba’s absence from the 2026 squad, saying the player is still in his plans.

Bosso confirmed Kudakwashe Mahachi, Lawrence Mhlanga, and Dominic Jaricha among others in the 25-man squad registered with the Premier Soccer League, but Mbeba’s omission sparked speculation in Bulawayo.

The Tower, who wants a house as part of his contract extension, has been skipping training before to pressure the club to meet his demands.

According to Mwaruwari, contract talks are almost done.  Mwaruwari said: “He’s still negotiating his contract. He’s with us. I love the fact that he’s with us. He’s one of our boys. He’s very supportive in training. He wants to work. And hopefully his situation will be sorted very soon.”

When asked about the sticking points in Mbeba’s contract, Mwaruwari said: “I don’t want to really go into players’ contracts, but what I heard, they are almost done. We’re fortunate that he’s almost getting fit. So the situation, once it’s done, I think we’ll all be happy.”

Highlanders started the season on a decent 1-1 note, salvaging a point against Bulawayo Chiefs in the Bulawayo derby played at Barbourfields on Sunday.

Meanwhile Bosso have also signed Aron Ngwenya and Pride Zendera as back up goalkeepers to Reward Muza.

Nomore Chinyerere, Shepherd Mhlanga and Tawanda Shenje are also part of their squad for the season.
