Motherwell battling to keep Maswanhise, Askou insists in-form Warriors star is not for sale

Motherwell coach Jens Bethel Askou is confident the Scottish Premiership side will keep in-form and on-demand Warriors star Tawanda Maswanhise beyond the January transfer window despite several clubs chasing after his signature.

The 23-year old rising Zimbabwean star has been in blistering form this season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions for Motherwell.

Maswanhise is the leading goalscorer in the Scottish top-flight and his brace yesterday powered Motherwell to a 2-0 victory over Livingston, a result which now sees The Steelmen trailing log leaders Celtic by just two points.

With Maswanhise’s future shrouded in uncertainty amid speculation that Celtic and Rangers are battling for his signature, Askou, naturally, was quizzed over whether or not the club can still keep the Warriors star, whose contract expires in 2027.

“We have a game on Wednesday and the business we plan to do doesn’t really involve him,” Askou told journalists after yesterday’s victory.

“I never said he wasn’t for sale, but I said we don’t have a plan to sell him now,” he added.

The January transfer window opened on January 1 and will end this coming Tuesday with eyes in the Scottish Premiership, on Maswanhise.
