Milan close to signing Crystal Palace striker Mateta

Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta is in the process of completing medical checks ahead of a transfer to AC Milan, according to reports. The striker was not included in Palace’s matchday group against Nottingham Forest, a decision taken by head coach Oliver Glasner amid ongoing negotiations.

Interest in the French attacker has gathered pace over recent days, with Milan pushing to finalise the move before the transfer window closes.

Replacement secured clears path

Any potential departure had been conditional on Palace sourcing an alternative option up front. That obstacle has now been removed after the club reached an agreement with Wolves for Jorgen Strand Larsen, allowing talks with Milan to progress without delay.

With that deal in place, Palace have authorised Mateta’s exit, paving the way for him to complete the remaining formalities of his switch to Italy.

Fee agreed after negotiations

Palace had initially been seeking a sum close to £40 million for the 28-year-old, but the final agreement with the Rossoneri is understood to exceed €30 million. The exact location of Mateta’s medical has not been confirmed.

During his time at Selhurst Park, Mateta scored nine times in 33 league appearances this season and departs having accumulated 56 goals in total for the club.

Milan wins race for signature

Nottingham Forest also attempted to sign the striker, submitting an offer valued at £35 million, roughly equivalent to €40 million. However, Mateta’s preference was to join Milan, a factor that proved decisive.

With more than a full day left before the deadline, there is confidence that all remaining steps can be completed in time for the transfer to be finalised.
