The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League title race took another dramatic twist on Matchday 15 as Harare City climbed to the summit following an impressive victory, while Golden Eagles strengthened their promotion ambitions and Ngezi Stars U19 suffered a costly defeat.

Harare City seized the opportunity to move top of the standings after a commanding 3-1 home win over Banket United.

Having started the weekend just one point behind leaders Black Rhinos, City delivered when it mattered most, with their potent attack once again proving decisive. The victory temporarily sends them to 28 points and piles pressure on Black Rhinos, who still have to face Marere FC.

One of the biggest results of the day came at Black Mambas where Golden Eagles edged the hosts 1-0. The crucial away victory lifts Eagles firmly into the title conversation and keeps them within touching distance of the leading pack. With the race so tight, every point is proving invaluable, and Eagles have once again shown they are genuine contenders.

Ngezi Stars U19 missed a golden opportunity to challenge for top spot after falling 2-1 away to an in-form G&T Mine FC. The defeat leaves the youthful side vulnerable to being overtaken by several rivals. For G&T Mine, the result continues an impressive run of form and pushes them closer to the promotion-chasing group.

Meanwhile, FC Oden and Jumbo Giants shared the spoils in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. The result does little to significantly boost either side’s ambitions but keeps both clubs firmly in the hunt for a top-eight finish as the season approaches its halfway stage.

The weekend’s early results have already reshaped the upper end of the table. Harare City have thrown down the gauntlet, Golden Eagles have closed the gap on the leaders, and Ngezi Stars have lost ground in a title race where mistakes are becoming increasingly costly.

Attention now turns to the remaining fixtures, particularly Black Rhinos’ trip to Marere FC. The army side know victory is essential if they are to reclaim top spot from Harare City and maintain control of a championship battle that is becoming more unpredictable with every passing week.
