The MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League returns with a crucial round of midweek fixtures on June 10 and 11, with several clubs carrying ambitions of promotion while others continue their battle to climb away from the danger zone.

At the summit, Harare City (24 points) will be aiming to protect their one-point lead when they host FC Oden (17 points) at Callies Sports Club.

City occupy top spot after 13 rounds, but with only three points separating the top four teams, any slip-up could prove costly.

FC Oden, sitting in ninth position, have been difficult to beat this season and could emerge as potential spoilers.

Second-placed Ngezi Stars U19 (23 points) face a stern test against Black Mambas (17 points) at Baobab Stadium.

A victory could see Ngezi leapfrog Harare City if results elsewhere go their way, while Mambas know three points would bring them closer to the title contenders.

Another key clash sees Black Rhinos (23 points) host Rangers (16 points) at Commando Barracks.

Rhinos boast one of the league’s best defensive record, having conceded just five goals in 13 matches, and they will be eager to keep pace with the leaders.

Perhaps the most interesting fixture comes on Thursday when fourth-placed Chingwere (21 points) welcome Karoi United (17 points) at Pfupajena Stadium.

Chingwere have been one of the surprise packages of the season and could move within touching distance of top spot should they get a positive result.

Karoi however, remain within striking distance of the leading pack and know victory would significantly boost their own promotion hopes.

Fifth-placed Golden Eagles (19 points) also have an opportunity to close the gap when they entertain MWOS U19 (14 points).

Eagles remain just five points behind the leaders and cannot afford to drop points at this stage of the campaign.

Elsewhere, sixth-placed CP Chemicals (19 points) face seventh-placed G&T Mining (19 points) in a direct battle between two sides level on points.

The winner could end the round inside the top five and firmly in the title conversation.

In the lower half, Banket United (14 points) take on bottom side Shamva Mine (12 points) in a match carrying significant implications near the relegation zone.

Zambezi G&C (13 points) host Jumbo Giants (16 points) hoping to move further away from danger, while Chegutu Pirates (16 points) face High Range (15 points) in a tightly balanced encounter.

The final day fixture sees Batanai (16 points) host PAM (16 points) in another evenly matched contest, while Cranborne Bullets (19 points) meet Marere (12 points) looking to strengthen their position among the league’s leading contenders.

With the top four separated by just three points and several clubs still dreaming of promotion, Matchday 14 promises to be one of the most important rounds of the season so far.

By Thursday evening, the MCM Estates Northern Region title race could have an entirely different look.
