“Matinha’s screamer best goal so far,” says Lloyd Mutasa

MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa reckons Nigel Matinha’s stunner against Chicken Inn on Sunday, is the best goal of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League so far.

Matinha made last season’s goalkeeper of the year Donovan Bernard look like an ordinary goalkeeper with a thunderbolt that flew into the top corner with 37 minutes on the clock, leaving those in attendance shocked.

The solitary strike was enough for MWOS to collect maximum points and rerun to the summit of the table, opening a three point gap in the process.

After the game, Mutasa was asked about the goal and the veteran tactician said: “It was a great goal. The technique was there, the accuracy. It’s one of the best goals I have seen so far this season. It was another tricky encounter. Playing against a seasoned side like Chicken Inn is not easy. The good part is that from the few chances that we created, we managed to score.”

The Punters’ fairytale start to life in the Premiership is still shocking many, especially the statistics which back up.

MWOS have conceded just two goals in their opening ten matches, with Warriors goalkeeper Martin Mapisa being the only goalkeeper to have kept seven clean sheets.

His deputy Francis Tizayi also kept a clean sheet when he was between the sticks against his former paymasters FC Platinum last month.

The Punters boast of the highest number of wins – 6.

They face in-form TelOne at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday.
