Matigimu Sanctioned for Code of Conduct Breach in Bulawayo Test

Zimbabwe fast bowler Kundai Matigimu has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against South Africa in Bulawayo. The incident occurred on day one, when Matigimu threw the ball at close range and struck South African batter Lhuan-de Pretorius on the wrist, following a fielding attempt in the 72nd over.

Matigimu was found guilty of violating Article 2.9 of the ICC Code, which deals with throwing the ball in a dangerous or inappropriate manner. As this is his first offence in the past two years, he also received one demerit point on his disciplinary record.

The Zimbabwean pacer accepted the charge and the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required. The charge was brought by the on-field umpires and match officials. While the incident was not severe, it serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline on the field.
