Masomere enters the fray as Maruwa’s future at TelOne looks bleak

Veteran coach Luke ‘Vahombe’ Masomere is being lined up as TelOne FC’s next coach, with Herbert Maruwa’s tenure looking uncertain amid the club’s poor 2026 season run.

TelOne FC are yet to register a win after nine rounds of fixtures, losing all five home matches at Ascot Stadium. Their best efforts have yielded just three draws, leaving them stuck in the relegation zone, above only Agama FC and Manica Diamonds.

After losing 1-0 at the hands of Herentals College FC, Maruwa looked sombre before admitting he doesn’t have control over the situation.

“So again, it’s tough luck. We tried our best to compete in the game. But we failed to find the equaliser. Again, we lost concentration in the crucial moments,” Maruwa said after the match.

“Like I have been saying, maybe for the past seven games, we have conceded between 35 to 45 minutes. That’s where we are not concentrating. It’s easier if we work with the mental strength of the players. We’ll get it right. The main thing is that I don’t have control.”

The club’s struggles run deeper than meets the eye – simply put they play well but strangely lacking the results.

And Masomere, a veteran coach and popularly known as the ‘Doctor of Football’ is already warming up to take over the hotseat.

With experience at PSL clubs like Masvingo United, Shabanie Mine, and Manica Diamonds, Masomere will be returning to the dug out after his latest stint at Hardrock FC last season, then in Central Region Soccer League. He was spotted at their latest loss, a 1-0 defeat to a Ralph Kawondera strike.
