Manchester United have been asked to make a move for Brighton and Hove Albion striker, Danny Welbeck, to mentor their summer signing, Benjamin Šeško, who is still adapting to life in Old Trafford.
The Red Devils splashed the cash to sign the Slovenian from Red Bull Leipzig in the summer after a period of courting several high-level striker targets. He started the season slowly but is coming into his own. However, many are losing patience with how long he is taking to make a mark, especially when compared to other new signings in the league like Nick Woltemade of Newcastle United and Viktor Gyökeres of Arsenal.
Šeško’s latest outing saw him come off after less than 30 minutes after what was suspected to be a knee injury. Reports claim that he is also a few weeks away from making his return. While he heals up and prepares to return, opinions have come in from different sides on how the club can manage the young striker.
“I mean, it’d be a brilliant fit,” football pundit Don Hutchison said in an interview with SportCasting. “He’d be a fantastic signing because Danny Welbeck’s one of those players where, if he went back to Man United, it would be like when Jonny Evans returned.
“When Jonny Evans went back there a couple of years ago, he was happy to be a sort of mentor inside the dressing room. He was happy to be a mentor to the players that were playing. He was happy to play his part when needed. He was happy to be on the bench.
“I think Danny Welbeck going to Man United would be a really good fit in terms of he can still play, he can still score goals, he’s still really fit. But he would still have the attitude where it would be a fantastic move forward, being back at Man United with the knowledge that he’d be mentoring the likes of Sesko. I think it would be a perfect move.”
Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Senne Lammens’ impact on the club since he took over the No. 1 spot in between the sticks for Manchester United, as well as the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
“There are signs, the manager has had some good signs,” he told Raceday RTV. “Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.
“Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success – the signs are getting better.”
