Makepekepe keeps rolling, but Chiragwi sees room for improvement

‎Caps United FC’s perfect start to the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season remains intact, after they edged Herentals FC 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Obriel Chirinda’s 19th-minute strike was all the team needed to collect maximum points, making it two wins from two games.

‎While the result was a morale booster, Head Coach Takesure Chiragwi wasn’t entirely satisfied, setting the tone with a candid assessment: “It was a tough match to be honest, but I think in terms of tactical discipline we were better than our opponents in terms of keeping possession.”

Chiragwi’s praise for his team’s discipline was evident, but he quickly shifted focus to areas that need improvement.

‎Notably, the Green Machine created numerous scoring opportunities, but struggled to convert them into goals. “We need to give credit to the players who created numerous opportunities to score, but unfortunately, we managed to get one goal, we could have got maybe three or four,” Chiragwi said, highlighting the team’s lack of clinical finishing.

‎Furthermore, Chiragwi expressed concerns about his team’s defensive vulnerabilities, particularly in the closing stages of the game. “In the last ten minutes, it was difficult, but like I have said, probably they were getting tired and the concentration gives away, and the motivation was coming from the opposition because they really wanted to get another goal,” he noted.

‎Despite these reservations, Chiragwi remains upbeat about his team’s prospects, emphasizing the importance of collecting maximum points. “At the end of the day, we are really happy to collect the maximum points because that is what’s important… it gives us confidence going into the next game and also the energy to keep on pushing.”

With the win, Caps United FC remains at the top of the log standings, and Chiragwi’s side will be looking to build on this momentum in their next outing.
